Who they are
The Ilvexi swarm is not a people but a decision, made by many billions at the same moment. They have no commander in the sense the other species mean it; the swarm knows something, and the swarm acts. Capture an Ilvexi ship and you have captured an empty body.
A single unit is worth nothing, and no one knows this better than they do. Their hulls are designed to be cheap to lose: little armour, little comfort, nothing spare. Whatever dies is already back on the line next round — the swarm has no grief, only a schedule.
That impatient rebuilding is their greatest strength. Ilvexi production runs faster than anyone else's, so a lost battle is not a catastrophe for them but an expense. The enemy tires of their own victory.
